Our hostal is inside the Pululahua Crater about 25 km north of Quito near the “Mitad del Mundo”.
FROM QUITO -. The Pululahua Crater is about 25 km north of Quito near “La Mitad del Mundo”. Take the bus Mitad del Mundo on Avenida America & 18 de Septiembre, near Universidad Central. You must get off on the exit road to the crater which is about 5 minutes beyond “La Mitad del Mundo”. From there you must walk about 15 minutes uphill to the edge of the crater, also called “El Mirador”, and then 25 minutes down a steep dirt road! At the bottom there will be a junction, take the left road and continue about 100 meters. We are on the right hand side. Park entrance fee is $2.50 for foreigners if you mention that you are going to Pululahua Hostal. If you want to avoid the 15 minute uphill walk to El Mirador, then get off on “La Mitad del Mundo” and get a pickup truck to take you to the Mirador for $2.
FROM LA MITAD DEL MUNDO -. If you are in la Mitad del Mundo you can also take the bus that goes to Calacali and you should get off on the first road to the crater which is about 5 minutes past the Mitad del Mundo. From there you must walk about 1 km up to the edge of the crater. You can also take a rental pickup truck for $2.50 that takes you to the edge of the crater also called “El Mirador”. From here you must walk down a steep dirt road. At the bottom there will be a junction, take the left road and continue about 100 meters. We are on the right hand side. The walking time form the edge of the crater to our place is 25 minutes.
BY CAR .- Stay on the road past La Mitad del Mundo and continue to Calacali. After you pass the TEXACO gas station you will find a dirt road to the right, this is the park entrance to the Geobotanical Reserve. When you get to the bottom of the crater you will need to take one right at a “Y”, it should take about 30 minutes to reach this intersection. Stay on this road for another 2 km and you will arrive to the hostal on the left. Park entrance fee is $2.50 for foreigners if you mention that you are going to Pululahua Hostal.
