MAP AND INSTRUCTIONS
FROM QUITO BY BUS -. To do this you need good walking shoes and good trekking abilities. The Pululahua Crater is about 25 km north of Quito near “La Mitad del Mundo”. Take the bus Mitad del Mundo on Avenida America & 18 de Septiembre, near Universidad Central. You must get off on Mitad del Mundo and get a rental pickup truck (white and green) or taxi to take you to the Mirador for $2.50. Make sure they take you to the end of the paved road where there is a chain and small handicraft vendors. Now you need to pay the park entrance fee if the park ranger is at the hut near the trail that leads to the bottom of the crater. Continue 30 minutes down a steep slippery road! At the bottom there will be a junction, take the left road and continue about 100 meters. We are on the right hand side. Park entrance fee is $2.50 for foreigners if you mention that you are going to Pululahua Hostal.
BY CAR .- Stay on the road past La Mitad del Mundo and continue to Calacali. After you pass the TERPEL gas station, about seven minutes past La Mitad del Mundo, you will find a dirt road to the right; this is the park entrance to the Geobotanical Reserve. When you get to the bottom of the crater (after 30 minutes of descending) you will need to take one right at a “Y”. Stay on this road for another 2 km and you will arrive to the hostal on the left. Park entrance fee is $2.50 for foreigners if you mention that you are going to Pululahua Hostal.
