Isla Corazon
This island is also in the list of Important Bird Areas in Ecuador since it protects mangrove formed at the the Chone River estuary. It has been reforested by the nearby fishermen of Puerto Portovelo who provide guided tours to this conservation project.
To reach this island it is necessary to go across Bahia de Caraquez to San Vicente and then take the road that goes to Chone for about 15 minutes (8 km). You will see a sign that for Tours to Isla Corazon. Julio Rodriguez is an excellent guide and even knows most of the scientific bird names.
The best time to visit is on low tide when the birds are feeding on the flats formed by silt deposition.
