Jatun Sacha Bird Watching
This is a great place for birdwatching the Amazon without spending all of your budget and only at 5 hours drive from Quito. The Jatun Sacha Foundation has been protecting 2,500 hectares of Amazonian forest since 1986. The forest is mostly primary but there are also secondary and farmland areas. The lodging is very basic but there are also other options for lodging nearby on the town of Misahualli.
We have decided to offer tours to this foundation due to their proven track in conservation and also because of the great birds that we found on our scouting trip. If you are birding by yourself then you must hire Milton Orozco cell: 081326416 who works at Jatun Sacha and knows where to find all the good birds.
For those with good climbing abilities there is a 30 meter observation tower that provides amazing views of the canopy and, on a clear day, the Eastern Andes Mountains seen from the Amazon
